R&D Mechanical Engineer, EV HUB Lab

Oslo, Norway

Join EV HUB Lab: where the best minds meet the toughest challenges.

EV HUB Lab is the R&D and innovation centre of EV HUB, a Norwegian technology company, majority-owned by the Swedish automotive group KGK AB, working with customers and partners across Europe. We bring engineers, technicians and technical minds together to solve some of the hardest problems in electric vehicles.

We do more than repair existing products. We develop new technologies, build new products and solve complex technical problems. Then we turn that knowledge into repeatable processes, technologies and products that scale, at home and internationally. Each solution should work every time, for every unit, not just once.

Our new 3,300 m² facility in Hagan, north of Oslo, brings R&D, engineering, testing and industrial remanufacturing together under one roof, from the first teardown to the finished product.

You get the freedom, responsibility and room to build something extraordinary, and to shape the future of the company and the automotive aftermarket. We look for curious, ambitious people who take ownership, share knowledge and challenge each other, and who never accept that something cannot be repaired or improved. Our ambition is to build one of the most exciting engineering environments in the European automotive aftermarket, where good ideas become real products.

The role

As an R&D Mechanical Engineer, you engineer how we rebuild e-drives (e-motors, gearboxes and e-axles) and electric steering racks from several manufacturers, and you develop the mechanical products that follow. You decide what can be salvaged and what must be replaced, set tolerances and specifications, design fixtures and tooling, take part in NVH and functional testing, and teach our technicians the methods you develop.

This is a key hire and a hands-on product development role: you build the mechanical engineering side of EV HUB Lab from the start, with real ownership and room for significant technical growth.

We look broadly. We are building one engineering team around skills, not job titles. This ad describes the gap we most need to fill, but nobody ticks every box and we do not expect you to. If you bring real depth in one area and working knowledge of others (mechanics and rebuild, vehicle diagnostics, vehicle communication and diagnostic software, power electronics, embedded hardware and firmware, HV batteries, test and measurement, NVH, process, quality and reliability, HV safety), we want to hear from you.

Immersion onboarding. Every EV HUB Lab role starts hands-on and grows into engineering. You start in our e-drive and steering rack production, tearing down and rebuilding the products you will engineer. It is how we learn the product, and how you will write salvage criteria and test specs that work on the floor.

What you will do

  • Develop and improve remanufacturing processes for e-drives and steering racks.
  • Define wear assessment and salvage criteria, tolerances, fits and part specifications (bearings, seals, gears, e-motors).
  • Design fixtures, tooling and test adapters in CAD.
  • Run NVH and functional testing of e-drives, with external partners where needed, and turn results into acceptance criteria.
  • Analyse root causes on failed and returned units.
  • Train the technicians in the methods you develop, in production and through work instructions they can follow.
  • Take new mechanical products from concept to production with the team and the technicians.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, or equivalent rebuild experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on work with e-motors, gearboxes, e-axles, transmissions or engines: bearings, gears, seals, fits and tolerances.
  • Design of parts, fixtures and tooling in CAD, with drawings and tolerancing.
  • Practical judgement on wear and damage: you can tell what can be reused and what must be replaced.
  • A structured way of testing and investigating failed parts, down to the root cause.
  • Clear technical documentation that production can work from.
  • You enjoy passing on what you know, in production as well as on paper.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
  • You must be eligible to work in Norway. For the right profile, we support the work permit application.

Nice to have

  • Engine, gearbox or transmission rebuilding or remanufacturing.
  • NVH measurement and analysis.
  • Test benches and functional testing.
  • Electrical side of e-motors and e-drives.
