Join EV HUB Lab: where the best minds meet the toughest challenges.
EV HUB Lab is the R&D and innovation centre of EV HUB, a Norwegian technology company, majority-owned by the Swedish automotive group KGK AB, working with customers and partners across Europe. We bring engineers, technicians and technical minds together to solve some of the hardest problems in electric vehicles.
We do more than repair existing products. We develop new technologies, build new products and solve complex technical problems. Then we turn that knowledge into repeatable processes, technologies and products that scale, at home and internationally. Each solution should work every time, for every unit, not just once.
Our new 3,300 m² facility in Hagan, north of Oslo, brings R&D, engineering, testing and industrial remanufacturing together under one roof, from the first teardown to the finished product.
You get the freedom, responsibility and room to build something extraordinary, and to shape the future of the company and the automotive aftermarket. We look for curious, ambitious people who take ownership, share knowledge and challenge each other, and who never accept that something cannot be repaired or improved. Our ambition is to build one of the most exciting engineering environments in the European automotive aftermarket, where good ideas become real products.
The role
As an Embedded Software Engineer for vehicle communication and diagnostics, you own the layer between the boxes: how control units and battery management systems talk to each other and to us. You decode CAN and LIN signals and reverse engineer vehicle communication protocols, and you build the tools that automate this work, so each new brand is faster to decode than the last. You also build our multi-brand battery testing: equipment and software that communicate with different BMS, extract battery data and produce battery health (SOH) reports.
You become the owner of that software: you simplify it and grow it with the team. This is a senior role at the centre of our multi-brand strategy, and an opportunity for significant technical growth.
We look broadly. We are building one engineering team around skills, not job titles. This ad describes the gap we most need to fill, but nobody ticks every box and we do not expect you to. If you bring real depth in one area and working knowledge of others (mechanics and rebuild, vehicle diagnostics, vehicle communication and diagnostic software, power electronics, embedded hardware and firmware, HV batteries, test and measurement, NVH, process, quality and reliability, HV safety), we want to hear from you.
Immersion onboarding. Every EV HUB Lab role starts hands-on and grows into engineering: you first get to know the products we repair in production. For a communication and software specialist this is short, and you move into engineering work quickly.
What you will do
- Decode CAN, CAN FD and LIN signals and reverse engineer vehicle communication protocols: DBC decoding, UDS services and DIDs, wake-up and network management.
- Build tools that automate reverse engineering, from logging to decoded signals.
- Own, simplify and extend our multi-brand diagnostic and vehicle emulation software.
- Develop multi-brand battery test equipment and software: communicate with different BMS, extract battery data and generate battery health (SOH) reports.
- Make HV components run on the bench without the vehicle, by emulating the vehicle around them.
- Test and validate the software and the decoded data, so the rest of the team can rely on them.
- Document what you learn, take part in design and code reviews, and work with diagnostics, electronics and test engineers in project squads.
What you bring
- 5+ years of embedded or automotive software development, for example in Python, C or C++.
- Degree in electrical, electronic or computer engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of vehicle networks and diagnostic protocols: CAN and CAN FD, UDS (ISO 14229) and ISO-TP (ISO 15765).
- Experience reverse engineering vehicle networks or ECU communication: logging, decoding and reproducing traffic.
- Experience building, testing and validating software that other people rely on: clear structure, tests and documentation.
- Comfort on the bench with real hardware: CAN interfaces, power supplies and wiring, with tools such as Vector, PCAN or SavvyCAN.
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English.
- You must be eligible to work in Norway. For the right profile, we support the work permit application.
Nice to have
- Hands-on vehicle diagnostics across brands.
- BMS communication and battery data: cell data, state of health.
- Embedded hardware and firmware: flashing, EEPROM, debug interfaces (JTAG/SWD).
- DoIP and automotive Ethernet; diagnostic data formats such as ODX or A2L.
- Knowledge of EV high-voltage systems: battery and BMS, power electronics.
What We Offer
- Hands-on work on real EV hardware, from component level to vehicle
- A great team of skilled people, in a friendly and open culture
- Real responsibility and autonomy, with no time lost in heavy processes
- A growing team where your work directly shapes processes and products
- Room to develop your skills as the company grows
- Competitive salary and pension scheme
- HV safety and product training provided
- Workplace: Industriveien 11, Hagan (Nittedal), north of Oslo
